Artist Statement:
My artistic works serve a function and are not solely commodity goods or a reflection of personal expression. I use printmaking to explore social concerns, my art is therefore showcased as a form of poetical thinking, as a critical means to start discussions and share understandings about our time and reality.Print media has particular qualities, it can be a functional product (advertisement, poster) or seen as an artistic work. This duality allows printmaking to be an open space for artistic and conceptual research through the creation of aesthetically pleasing works or by the exploration of the techniques involved in printmaking. For example, relief prints, silkscreen and letterpress have been an indispensable part in the socio-political landscape for the last 100 years. Print media is not only a system of communication but also the medium that creates and shapes ideas and consequently our reality.
In my work, I investigate the uses and history of printmaking. I am interested in exploring how the printmaking process is related to the way we understand politics and social issues. There is a particular quality of printmaking that is created through reproduction. In my artistic practice, I develop the complete editions as the material for the creation of a work, as the generator for installation works. My practice demonstrates the creation of the interactive nature where the quality of reproduction and the diffusion of ideas are evident. I explore the conceptual quality of printmaking and how this media has infinite possibilities of exploration.
To create art that reaches the public, I do work based on texts and the imaginary created by public information. I reuse information in a critical way to question how we develop our knowledge. It is also important for me to work through this information because I believe that artistic products must be relevant to the current time and space. My intention is to create a second level of understanding of the ideas enclosed on the image or text. This is possible by the creation of a conceptual space between the source and the reproduction that I make.

“tools are made for a specific purpose, using them in a manner for which they are not intended produces

results that expose an ulterior motive. The Inkjet printer is a tool designed to create a perfect copy,
yet it is only when the printer is running out of ink that it truly interest me. I am testing the limits of the
inkjet printer as a printing tool. I start with a fresh ink cartridge and print large black rectangles until
the cartridge is empty. Essentially, I am overdriving the tool until it reaches the limits of its capabilities.
I ultimately produce a print that magnifies and exposes the glitches and errors that define the beauty of
imperfection. J “
